Latest Events – June 2017

Team Aperture from Newton High School recently returned home from the FIRST World Championship in St. Louis Missouri with the UL INTERNATIONAL INDUSTRIAL SAFETY AWARD. They competed against more than 400 other teams internationally in the Dome at America’s Center in St. Louis, Missouri on April 27-28.

While Aperture headed on their way back home to Newton, waiting at the Andover Borough Fire Station were several fire trucks, emergency medical service vehicles, and police officers ready to escort the team back to Newton High School from their victory. Congratulating signs and balloons were also displayed at the high school as the team arrived home.

The Newton Robotics Team was then recognized by both the Green Township Committee and the Newton Town Committee in May for their success.

Brigadier General Alfred F. Abramson III attended Newton High School on June 7, 2017 to honor the Newton Robotics Team for attainment of the Industrial Safety Award in St. Louis and for their immense amount of influence and sustainability for S.T.E.M. education. Students from Newton High School sat outside on the bleachers of the turf field to watch their peers be recognized.

The S-2398 Legislation, a bill that would require all public schools in New Jersey to adopt a policy that allows for all academic teams to obtain a varsity status, was recently passed into law and signed by Governor Chris Christie (R) in early May. Robotics teams from public New Jersey high schools will now be able to gain recognition for their work.
